The National Museum of History (NMH) in Taipei is reopening to the public on Feb. 21 after a five-year renovation. The museum has expanded its exhibition spaces by about 262 pings, a traditional unit of area in Taiwan. The renovation also includes enhanced nighttime lighting to create a scenic nightscape within the Nanhai Academy. The façade now integrates the NMH, the National Taiwan Arts Education Center’s Nanhai Theater, and the corridor landscape between the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute. The renovated NMH features an enlarged display space, a new family-oriented area for children, a national gallery for special exhibitions, and a panoramic dining restaurant. The museum aims to create a continuous public space within the establishment to enhance the recreational environment of Nanhai Cultural Park. The new evening lighting aims to boost the overall ambiance of the Nanhai Academy.

The Taipei City Government has received proposed rental fee standards for the Taipei Dome from the Farglory Group. The Department of Sports confirmed that ticket sales and rental costs for domestic baseball games amounted to NT$525,000, including a 10% ticket sales cut. For non-ticketed events open to the public, venue rent costs rise to NT$1.05 million. The Taipei Dome has established its venue rental pricing standard after three months of trial run and submitted it to the city government. The rental fee will vary based on event types and standards, with utilities calculated separately. Different rates apply to international baseball events, non-baseball events, non-sporting events, and specific events like concerts or exhibitions. Rental costs also differ based on whether the venue is fully opened or not. The Farglory Group has provided the proposed fee standards to the city government for evaluation and a public announcement will be made after discussions.

The Ministry of Culture in Taiwan has identified violations related to the use of Culture Points, distributed to individuals aged 16-22, for promoting youth engagement in the performing arts, exhibitions, and book consumption. Businesses, including beauty and nail salons, have been caught illegally accepting these points. The Ministry has warned these venues and legal action has not been ruled out, as fraudulently claiming benefits is considered a crime under Article 339 of the Criminal Code, carrying a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment. Additionally, some young people have been selling their Culture Points on social platforms and auction sites, potentially exposing their personal data. To address this issue, the Ministry has performed a database comparison and locked emails of accounts with large amounts of Culture Points, urging citizens to reconfirm their identities to reclaim usage rights.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture has launched the ＂Culture Points＂ program, which allows Taiwanese youth aged 16 to 22 to receive at least 1,200 points, with each point equivalent to one New Taiwan dollar. These points can be used for various cultural and artistic experiences and consumption, such as museum tickets, community cultural center activities, music exhibitions, and art performances. However, there have been controversies as some vendors have violated the regulations by presenting beauty and nail care products as artistic and cultural items. Investigations have been launched, and the disqualified vendors have had their funds withdrawn. It is important to note that the Culture Points cannot be resold, bought, or cashed, and violators will be legally prosecuted. The points are valid until December 31, 2024, and recipients are required to scan the QR code at relevant venues or present the QR code for scanning. Receipts or invoices equivalent to the original value must be issued by stores during purchases made with Culture Points, and violating shops may be reported to the National Taxation Bureau.

The National Comics Museum in Taipei is set to launch its inaugural exhibit on December 23, offering comic enthusiasts a new destination for artistic exploration. Situated in the former staff quarters of the Taichung Prison, the museum gained approval from the Executive Yuan in April. The eastern site of the museum, comprised of 15 Japanese-style buildings, currently features eight main themed exhibitions and three focal areas. One of the planned spaces, ＂Da Shu Jung Guang＂ (＂Big Fig Tree Lights＂), aims to create unique nocturnal landscapes using lighting, shadows, mist, and music. Another attraction is ＂Barkley The Cat,＂ an area adorned with whimsically scattered kitten patterns. The museum also includes three reading areas, a bathhouse area called ＂Pao Man-hua＂ (＂Soaking in Comics＂), and a section for comic graffiti. Visitors can enjoy ＂Jia Ramen＂ at Dormitory No. 12, designed for dining while enjoying Taiwanese comics. The northern site of the museum, featuring a new main building, is scheduled to open in 2029. The museum is eagerly anticipated by comic lovers across Taiwan as a celebration of the vibrant world of comics and animation.
